Phiew, deadlines, deadlines...
This is my 2nd entry for an ACEO swap thing.. (The Neptune-Marine-cathedral one was the first entry.) I had planned to draw Setsuna in a lab and doing science stuff, but spontaneously came up with this instead. I am really better in drawing serious/ sad motives.. The depicted scene might take place before Hotaru first met Chibusa. I showed the scars on her arm here and how lonely and vulnerable she is. Because this scene was one of the most personal touching one in the manga, when I read it back in 2001 or when it was. When Chibiusa saw Hotaru's scars and the reader just found out that Dr. Tomoe planted alien/ daimon cells in his own daughter's body... This shocked and impressed me a lot at that time and having it in mind again now, it still makes me very very emotional.
I also always loved Hotaru's lamp collection and that her room is all dark. I think the anime messed the deepness of her character a bit up... In the anime, imho, she appeared like a whiney always sick childish person and not as a character with strong emotions and deep and sad background story. But ok, the anime is in general more mainstream clientel fitting than the manga. ujbjhujnksnicgv what am I writing here, already such a long text.
Btw, another thing to mention.. The person in the door light.. I tried to make it look that he/ she is about to leaving her room.. may it be Kaorinight or Dr. Tomoe... But ya. Opens two different ways to interpret Hotaru's pose and face expression.
